Social Networking 101: How to get started with a Facebook profile

Social Media 1 Comment

Facebook already has 600 million users, and is the most popular social network in the world. If that doesn’t surprise you, how about this: Facebook creator Mark Zuckerberg is richer than Steve Jobs, and has been since September of 2010. But if you haven’t joined Facebook yet, don’t worry – in this short tutorial we’ll help you get your very own Facebook profile up and running.

First of all, it’s important to understand that Facebook lets you create a profile or a page. A profile is for people like you and me – normal human beings looking to get in touch with their friends and family. A page, on the other hand, is for companies, brands, products, celebrities, etc. More on this in an upcoming post on how to create a Facebook page. For now, let’s get you started with a profile.

  • Open up your browser and visit www.Facebook.com
  • Fill out the information on the left and hit the Register button
  • In the next page, you’ll go through 3 registration steps. You can skip these and fill them out later, but we recommend going through them.
  • Check your email and follow the instructions in it to finish your account.

That’s it! You now have a Facebook profile. You can now add some pictures or videos, post a status update, add some friends, or even play games like FarmVille. Welcome to Facebook!
